Obama’s Sweating on the Sweet Stuff!

Published by katieanne at 4:58 am under North America, Politics Edit This

Since when did calling someone “Sweetie” become a crime, or something to apologize for?  The reports state that Senator Obama called a reporter this as part of his response when she shouted a question at him whilst he was in the middle of a visit to a Detroit car plant.  Since he was obviously focusing on the people who were giving him the tour, and she was rudely interrupting, I can’t help but feel that “Sweetie” wasn’t the word that most people would be calling her!

As a woman I’m aware that some women feel that they are being spoken too condescendingly if someone calls them some form of endearment such as this, but as someone who is known to use the word myself to either sex, I don’t find it offensive.  There are far worse things to be called, and if I were under the pressure that Obama’s under, and was in his shoes at the point she shouted to get his attention, I doubt “Sweetie” would have been the word I’d of been calling her!   Not even close!

This reminds me of everyday life here in the South. We “sweetie” “hun” and “Sugar” everyone to death. I doubt if we were called out on it we’d even REMEMBER that we called someone that, I think there were far more other things he could have called her and that he picked the more politically correct one.

Thanks for the enlightening blog, sweetie;)

I watched the video, and it’s not the big deal that people are trying to make it into.

His tone of voice was very neutral, not condescending or rude. And, he looked absolutely mobbed.

This is a really unfair smear attempt.

    I thought so too.
