Jennifer Hudson’s Mother and Brother Dead: Success is No Protector from Violence

Published by katieanne at 9:07 am under Current Affairs, North America, celebrities Edit This

Imagine that everything in your life is going like a dream.  Your life is turning out to be even better than you expected, and then suddenly a cold wind of reality appears from no-where.  This is the situation that Jennifer Hudson finds herself in.  A contender for the American Idol crown Jennifer Hudson wowed audiences with her big voice and talent.  Once the show finished, she went on to bigger and better things - her career a success.

Yesterday all the success in the world would have come crashing down around Ms Hudson’s shoulders as news broke that both her mother and brother had been killed in their home.  Not only that, but also that her 7 year old nephew is still missing despite police having a man in custody for the murders.

As yet the motive for this vicious attack is unknown.  Was it personal or was it random?  The police aren’t releasing much information as yet, and Jennifer Hudson herself is still in transit to her family.  I can’t imagine her pain at this violent attack, but I know that she’d probably trade every accolade she has, including her Oscar, to have her family back safe.   Hope remains that her nephew is somewhere unhurt and will return to the family as soon as possible.

What kind of world are we living in where people are shot in their homes?  Used to be a home was a safe haven, a sanctuary you could hide in when you felt the world was too much.  Today it seems that there’s nowhere that’s really safe from those who live a life of violence and hate.

It is a frightening world! When I was teaching in the Community College system there were students who carried knives on their belts. There were a few times when I wasn’t sure I wanted to challenge these students, even though they were out of control in the classroom.
Sometimes I do feel as though we are prisoners in our homes … when I was young I got on by bike early in the morning and headed out to play. As long as we were home by dinner time our parents were fine with this. If my son is outside and doesn’t come when I call him, I begin to fear the worst.

We are raising a generation of paranoid children who don’t know the freedoms we knew growing up: don’t wander off alone there are sexual predators nearby; don’t talk to anyone with a cute puppy they may try to lead you away; don’t take candy from anyone you don’t know it could be poisoned …

I can’t imagine the fear, anger, and frustration Jennifer Hudson must be feeling. Almost makes you want to go live in the mountains in seclusion to raise children!

    Thanks for the post!

It is a tragic event. I heard on the new that there was a fight between her Mother and her Brother in Law and a vow of revenge. I can’t even imagine what she is going through right now. I can only hope that her nephew is found safe.

First, thanks for commenting on my blog.
I was really shocked to hear about this tragedy. It’s not a tragedy because her celebrity status failed to protect her family, but a tragedy that we as humans, still feel the desire for needless violence.

this is such a sad story. I mean not only is mom and brother dead but her nephew kidnapped? This sounds very personal of an attack of Julia, as it is members she loves deeply that are now dead and her child is missing. This is every parent’s worst nightmare come true. I had heard rumors there was a ransom but haven’t read anything official so not sure on that. Either way I hope little Julian is found safe and sound and the captors are thrown in prison.

Prison? Prison isn’t tough enough for those who commit crimes against children - unless they tatoo child molester on their face! I’m a tolerant person, but I have two “hot spots” and those are child abuse and animal abuse. Now don’t make me get my soapbox out! I’ll make John McCain and Sarah Palin combined look like peace protesters! :)
