Not Red States, Not Blue States, but the United States of Obama
As the dust settles on one of the most historic elections to be held, Barack Obama was crowned the President Elect of the United States of America. At one time America was the place to be, a place where dreams came true, where you could be whatever you wanted to be. The streets may not have been paved with gold, but if you were prepared to work hard, then the American dream was yours for the taking. Respected globally America was a great country. Over the last decade or so America has taken on a more negative image with political decisions and social issues somewhat staining the otherwise clean picture that those outside the US had of this huge nation filled with patriotic pride in their flag.
Last night I listened to the President Elect Barack Obama speak and echoes of Martin Luther King, JKF and even Ronald Reagan filled my head. I heard a leader. A man with the potential and motivation to reunite the various strands of American society under one flag, a man who could make America once more the respected country it once was. I see Obama being one of those people who will turn heads when they walk into a room. As being a man who will speak and people will listen. A man who was born to lead. High expectations perhaps, but I think this man was born to live up to the place history has reserved for him.
At times decisions are made and once done you wonder if you did the right thing. As I listened to Obama’s speech following the news that he had won the election, I had goosebumps. If Obama manages to do even half of the things that he promises, I believe that not only will the US be a better place, but the world as a whole will also benefit from his passion, his intellect and his leadership.

As a postscript I’d like to add that behind every candidate stands a supportive family and experience team, and so as a note to the Obama family and campaign team, congratulations for a job well done. You ran a great positive campaign, you put the focus where it was needed, you ignored the old school mud throwing competition, and you changed the course of history and helped put the best candidate in the White House.
